Overview


Through their teaching, research, and professional activities, BGSB faculty members strive to develop the best ways to measure, communicate and teach students, and to develop new and innovative methods for research.  To meet the needs of today’s complex markets, BGSB departments takes a multidisciplinary approach to their field of study, integrating concepts and methods with broader perspectives on organizational issues and the business environment.

Accounting

Through their teaching, research, and professional activities, BGSB faculty members in the Accounting Department strive to develop the best ways to measure and communicate an organization’s economic activities. To meet the needs of today’s complex markets, the department takes a multidisciplinary approach to the field, integrating finance and economics with broader perspectives on organizational issues and the business environment.

The Accounting Department develops and teaches accounting at three levels:

MBA students may major in financial accounting, with the flexibility to explore areas of special interest. The Accounting Department has developed an MBA course Financial Reporting. Business Ethics

The Department of Business Ethics focuses on studying corporate and individual behavior as it pertains to globally accepted ethical standards and practices. Dr. Kevin Karty, Ph.D. MIT, oversees course development and research on business ethics.

CIBD and CIED students enroll in courses from the department of Business Ethics as a core requirement. MBA students may enroll as an elective. Corporate Accountability

Working closely with the Department of Leadership, the Department of Corporate Accountability is concerned about the complex responsibilities facing business leaders today. Courses developed by the department examine the legal, ethical, and economic responsibilities of corporate leaders. It focuses on management systems available to companies and their employees, and how they contribute to both personal values and effective leadership.

Economics

The Economics department focuses on teaching, analyzing, and researching business economics, international economics, managerial economics, and the political economy. The department is headed by Dr. A. Reza Hoshmad, Professor of Economics and Fulbright Scholar.

Entrepreneurial Management

The Entrepreneurial Management department concentrates on the academic and methodological aspects of entrepreneurship and management. The department develops both core and elective courses for the MBA Program, and it also offers individual courses for individuals seeking professional development.

Health Care and Environmental

The Department of Environmental and Healthcare Management focuses on developing courses for managers interested in global development, environmental management, and/or health. A key interest of the department is the manner in which social services are delivered worldwide.

Finance

The Finance Department focuses on both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and analyses of complex strategies and investment vehicles. Our faculty works with businesses and leaders to analyze a broad range of finance-related research that addresses issues of present and future importance to managers, regulators and policy makers.

International Business

The International Business department teaches about the economic, political, social, and legal environment in which business operates. The department includes scholars trained in economics, political science, and history. It draws on perspectives from all three of these disciplines to create unique, hybrid courses that emphasize comprehensive knowledge and expertise.

Law and Legal Studies

The Department of Legal Studies develops courses that pertain to international business, joint-ventures, start-ups, intellectual property and enterprise law. It works closely with other departments to provide relevant courses and material to support the MBA, CIBD and CIED Programs.

Through its research, teaching, and course development, the Department of Leadership focuses on understanding how to lead and manage with the aim of increasing personal and organizational effectiveness. The department develops both core and elective courses for the MBA Program, and it also offers individual courses for individuals and corporations seeking professional development.

Management

The department of General Management concentrates on an organizations overall leadership and management. The department applies basic social science disciplines and research methods to management and leadership problems in the public and private sectors

Marketing

The Marketing Department is concerned with understanding an organizations needs to create value through effective communication. The department examines specific industries and their requirements for branding, business and global marketing, distribution, pricing, direct and interactive marketing, and return on marketing investment. The department develops both core and elective courses for the MBA Program, and it also offers individual courses for individuals and corporations seeking professional development.

Quantitative Analysis

The Department of Quantitative Analysis is currently headed by Dr. Kevin Karty, Ph.D. MIT. It focuses on quantitative methods including statistical analysis and quantitative market research methods. The department works closely with other departments to provide coursework that is relevant to the One-Year Prep, CIED, and MBA Program’s.

Research

The Department of Research focuses on developing courses that help students, businesses, and alumni develop and enhance their research skills. The department also works closely with other departments to aid in their research efforts. The department develops both core and elective courses for the MBA Program, and it also offers individual courses for individuals and corporations seeking professional development.

Strategy

The Strategy Department is managed by Mark Chussil, MBA Harvard Business School. It studies key issues concerning firms as competitors in the global economy, such as the development and effectiveness of strategy. The department is concerned with analyzing the competitive environment, and a firm’s ability to sustain strategy over the long-term.

MBA students may study courses in strategy as a core requirement, with the flexibility to explore areas of special interest. The Strategy Department has developed an MBA course STRG 2212. Technology Management

The Department of Technology Management researches and develops courses related to the expanding use of technology as a means of managing information, supply chains, and products and services. The department develops both core and elective courses for the MBA Program, and it also offers individual courses for individuals and corporations.
